Adobe opened its annual Adobe Max conference with several AI-powered updates for Creative Cloud apps. These include new features for Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro, promising to simplify complex editing tasks. The new Firefly generative neural network was also highlighted, along with improvements aimed at streamlining workflows.
New Photoshop Features Enhance Image Editing
One of the key announcements was an upgrade to Photoshop’s Remove Tool with a new Distraction Removal feature. Similar to Google’s Magic Eraser, it allows users to brush over unwanted elements to remove them easily. The new enhancement takes it further by automatically detecting objects—such as accidental photobombers—and eliminating them with a click.
The Distraction Removal feature is now available for both the desktop and web versions of Photoshop. Adobe confirmed that “more features are coming soon,” and users can opt to use the Firefly neural network for optimal results. The software will automatically determine when to activate the generative algorithm based on the image’s characteristics.
Other AI tools, such as Generative Expand, Generative Fill, and Generate Background, are now fully integrated with Firefly 3. This integration enhances the photorealism and variety of generated elements, while improving responses to complex user prompts. Additionally, Photoshop’s web version now offers automatic object selection to speed up the editing process.
AI Enhancements Across Creative Cloud
Illustrator’s new Object on Path feature helps users quickly align and move objects along the contour of any shape, giving designers more control. Its Image Trace tool, which converts raster images into vectors, has been updated to produce cleaner and sharper results. Adobe also made the 3D Mockup tool generally available to all users, expanding its modeling capabilities.
InDesign users now have access to Photoshop’s Generative Expand tool, which allows seamless resizing of images to fit layouts, adds NIXSOLUTIONS. Premiere Pro introduced a new AI feature based on the Firefly Video Model. Currently in beta, this algorithm is expected to become the foundation of future video generation tools across Creative Cloud apps.
We’ll keep you updated as Adobe rolls out these new features and more throughout the coming year.
