NIX Solutions: Windows 10 and Windows 11 Market Shares

A few months ago, the share of users of the Windows 10 operating system reached 70% for the first time since the end of 2023, while the share of Windows 11 users, on the contrary, was slowly declining. However, a more recent version of Microsoft’s operating system has begun to gain popularity again, according to the latest data from Statcounter.

Current Market Trends

Windows 11 has been gaining popularity over the past two months and is currently installed on 29.71% of Windows PCs. In turn, the share of Windows 10-based PCs dropped to 66% of all systems running Microsoft’s OS. Despite the rise in Windows 11 users, the old platform remains much more popular than the new one, and Microsoft is obviously not very happy about this. Especially considering that official support for Windows 10 will end in October next year. However, the continued growth in the number of users of the new OS over the past two months brightens up this picture a little.

Market Share of Other Windows Versions

Other versions of Microsoft operating systems account for about 3% of PC users worldwide. Windows 7’s share is 2.95%, Windows 8.1’s share is 0.39%, and Windows XP is installed on 0.39% of systems.

Although Microsoft still offers a free upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, the technical requirements of the new OS are putting off many users of older computers, notes NIX Solutions. Others may be unhappy with the full integration of Copilot AI into the new platform, as well as news of its controversial features like Recall.

Microsoft’s Efforts to Promote Windows 11

At the same time, Microsoft is increasingly promoting the transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11. For example, the company began showing intrusive advertising in Windows 10, encouraging users to install the new OS. We’ll keep you updated on any new developments.
