This month, American billionaire Elon Musk, owner of the social network X, missed a scheduled meeting with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). However, his lawyers have now assured the court that he will attend another hearing to testify next week.
Missed Testimony in San Francisco
Earlier this month, Musk failed to appear in San Francisco to testify regarding his purchase of Twitter in 2022, which he later renamed X and significantly restructured. Musk cited his need to attend a SpaceX spacecraft launch in Florida, which included astronauts, as the reason for his absence. This decision reportedly surprised even his own legal team, who had arrived in San Francisco to support him.
Additional Guarantees for Musk’s Appearance
Now, Musk’s lawyers must provide the court with extra assurances that he will attend the rescheduled hearing next week in San Francisco. As previously mentioned, Musk has already testified twice in this case in 2022 and believes he has nothing further to add. NIX Solutions reminds that he also disregarded a subpoena in September last year.
Other Legal Commitments
Musk’s close attorney, Alex Spiro, is currently also representing former New York Mayor Eric Adams in a bribery case in Manhattan’s federal court. Due to this commitment, the judge indicated that Musk would not be able to postpone the SEC meeting set for October 3. We’ll keep you updated on any further developments in this ongoing case.
