NIX Solutions: Figma’s AI Design Assistant – First Draft

In June this year, Figma introduced Make Design, a service that allowed users to create app designs using generative neural networks. However, this service was soon suspended because it produced projects that closely resembled existing Apple iOS apps. Now, Figma has returned with a new product called First Draft, an AI assistant designed for designers.

First Draft’s Key Features

With the launch of First Draft, Figma has integrated several innovative features into its service. Users now have the option to choose between app and website layouts or their full versions. Additionally, the platform supports searching for design elements through text descriptions or images, providing more flexibility and convenience.

In their blog, Figma’s developers emphasized that the neural networks used in First Draft are not trained on user content. They provided more details about the service’s functionality: “First Draft is not trained on customer content. It uses pre-existing AI models, such as OpenAI GPT-4 and Amazon Titan, with three key elements: model, context, and hint. The context includes native design system models with multiple components and assembly examples. Users provide their goals as guidance, and the AI selects, organizes, and configures design system components based on that data, creating a starting point for design,” the company explained.

Current Status and Availability

Figma stated that the AI design assistant was relaunched after “extensive analysis” and additional testing, adds NIX Solutions. First Draft also includes an automatic text generation tool for custom projects. Currently, this new service is available to a limited number of users as part of a beta program.

We’ll keep you updated on any further developments as First Draft progresses.
