According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing for significant announcements at this year’s WWDC, starting June 9. While earlier reports focused on a major design update for iOS 19 on iPhone and iPad, as well as a refresh for macOS 16, Gurman now reveals even more expansive changes.
In his latest Power On newsletter, he states that Apple is also planning substantial redesigns for watchOS and tvOS. Additionally, visionOS is expected to receive some visual updates. If these reports hold true, this would mean a broad, coordinated shift in Apple’s design strategy — one that brings all its device software platforms under a modern, unified design language.
Apple’s goal appears to be consistency across operating systems, with changes that include a greater use of transparent and glass-like materials, updated navigation hierarchies in apps, redesigned icons, and more. The WWDC invitation illustration itself seems to hint at these shifts — it features a glossy, 3D rainbow version of Apple Park, reinforcing the idea of glassy, reflective UI elements that may soon become standard across Apple devices.
The Biggest Visual Overhaul Since iOS 7
The visual style seen in visionOS — introduced alongside Apple Vision Pro last year — is expected to influence many of the upcoming design changes. According to Gurman, while this visionOS-inspired aesthetic will form the base, Apple still plans to make “tweaks” to better align the look and feel across all its platforms.
watchOS, which has received periodic updates over time, is set for one of its most notable redesigns to date. However, the changes to tvOS could be even more dramatic. Since its debut in 2015, tvOS has remained largely static and currently differs significantly from the style of iOS. If Gurman’s claims are accurate, Apple intends to bring tvOS closer to the rest of the ecosystem, helping users experience a more cohesive and modern interface across devices.
With WWDC just two weeks away, excitement is building. This could be Apple’s most substantial visual OS update since the release of iOS 7. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge and as the company officially unveils its vision for the next generation of user interfaces.
